Ann Gayters BuchananFriend · Mid 1980s

Mamie and I served on the Neighborhood Housing Service Board of Directors together. She was very service oriented for the home owners. We fought Metro to do the right thing for our community. She was very good at research and keeping records. We became good friends. We went to community meetings togethers, lunch and shopping. One day we went grocery shopping. She picked up about ten money and business magazines. I was thinking she sure is spending a lot of money on magazines. When we got to the checkout line, she had read all ten magazines and put them back on the shelf. We laughed. After she left the Board, we did not talk much, we were very busy. One day a few years later she called me and told me she was dating my cousin and they were expecting a son. I was so excited. She was smart, hard working. And always helping people help themselves. May she rest in peace.

When I met Mamie

Friend of Mamie

I met Mamie through a mutual friend of hers" Paulina Jones". We became friends. And it was like she had known me for years. We kept in touch over the years. Her smile was very contagious. Talked with her last year. Due to my health, I was unable to attend some of the functions, that she and Paulina were at. But would call, just to tell her hi. She was a true friend.

Mamie Brinkley was a friend and family. Mamie encouraged me to officially start my first business (Clean Sweep Lawn Service) in 1989. Mamie provided advice, tax services and was a client of the business for several years. Mamie and I could always have a laugh about something as we often teased each other about borrowing money from the other. May our Lord Jesus Christ comfort us all until we see Mamie again.

I remember my mom hosting tax classes and teaching entrepreneurship before it was popular. Around the same time she became a published author, she was sharing knowledge, encouraging people to start businesses, and showing others that financial independence was possible. She didn’t just talk about building a better future—she taught people how to create one.
